Walnut Kitchen Worktops by Earthy Timber

High Quality Walnut Worktops Directly from the Maker

Earthy Timber handcrafts bespoke walnut worktops made to measure in our own workshop, supplying directly across the UK mainland. We specialise in high quality full stave, wide stave walnut worktops. Each walnut worktop is custom built to the requested size and made to order.

Unlike the small block or narrow strip style walnut worktops commonly offered by other suppliers, we construct high quality walnut worktops using wide, full-length walnut planks. This approach allows the natural richness, grain pattern, and variation of the timber to be fully expressed, creating a more seamless and refined surface.

The wider planks used in each solid walnut worktop are carefully selected and matched in our workshop so they complement one another across the full length of the piece. This results in a balanced, visually continuous solid walnut countertop that highlights the depth and character of real walnut, rather than breaking it up into multiple small sections.

At Earthy Timber, every solid walnut worktop is handcrafted to order. We combine modern timber drying technology with traditional woodworking skills to ensure each walnut worktop is stable, durable, and made to last.

The Process of Crafting Walnut Worktops at Earthy Timber

At Earthy Timber, we transform salvaged walnut trees that have naturally reached the end of their life cycle into stunning, handcrafted walnut wood worktops, giving them a second life as high quality kitchen countertops in your home or business. These walnut trees are individually sourced from private estates across the UK and Europe, ensuring every piece carries a story of its origin.

To ensure durability and prevent warping, we subject the walnut wood slabs to a precise vacuum kiln drying process, expertly conducted at Earthy Timber. This meticulous walnut wood drying process stabilises the timber, preparing it for crafting into high quality kitchen walnut worktops.

Each walnut plank is hand-selected with careful attention to its natural features, such as unique markings, cracks, and striations. This allows us to match the timber to your chosen setting, ensuring a harmonious and visually stunning result.

To enhance the organic beauty of the walnut, we may employ epoxy resin infusion techniques. This process closes the wood’s open grain patterns, natural imperfections, and intricate striations, transforming these features into captivating design elements. The resin not only creates a smooth and striking surface but also ensures a hygienic and easy to maintain walnut worktop, ideal for kitchens, bathrooms and other demanding spaces.

By combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative techniques, Earthy Timber crafts walnut worktops that are as functional as they are beautiful.

Unique Characteristics of Salvaged Walnut Wood

Only salvaged walnut can deliver the remarkable wood tones and distinctive grain patterns that arise naturally in trees reaching the end of their life cycle. Earthy Timber’s walnut worktops are a celebration of this extraordinary timber, showcasing its unparalleled beauty and versatility. Characterised by rich chocolate browns, pale hues, and hints of amber, Salvaged English / European walnut offers a dynamic and visually captivating palette. Its grain features intricate patterns, including flowing lines, subtle curls, and natural knots, lending depth and individuality to every piece.

Unlike the uniform and plain appearance of plantation-grown walnut, salvaged walnut trees boast unique features such as open knots, swirling patterns, radiant undertones, and earthy grains, all of which exude an organic charm. These striking characteristics create a warm and inviting aesthetic, perfectly suited for those seeking a walnut worktop kitchen centrepiece that harmonises natural beauty with elegance.

Renowned for its deep, earthy tones and distinctive grain, Earthy Timber’s walnut worktop brings a timeless sophistication that surpasses fleeting trends. With a steadfast commitment to quality and craftsmanship, our walnut worktops deliver not only enduring visual appeal but also unmatched longevity, making them a truly exceptional choice for your home or business.

How Many Planks Are Used in an Earthy Timber Walnut Worktop?

At Earthy Timber, the number of walnut planks used in a walnut worktop is a direct reflection of our commitment to quality. Rather than using multiple narrow strips, we carefully select wider, full length boards to create a refined and premium finish.

As a guide, a 600mm wide walnut worktop is typically crafted from just 2-3 full length planks, while a 1000mm wide walnut worktop is usually made from only 3-4 planks. This allows each wide plank, full stave walnut worktop to showcase the natural grain, colour variation, and character of solid walnut across the entire surface.

This approach delivers a clean, balanced composition that feels authentic and considered. The wider planks create a seamless flow, enhancing the natural beauty of the timber and resulting in a true high end walnut worktop finish.

In comparison, majority of suppliers rely on narrow planks or small block construction to reduce costs. These methods introduce excessive joins and visual interruptions in walnut worktop, leading to a fragmented, mass produced appearance.

By contrast, Earthy Timber walnut worktops stand apart. Our use of very wide planks ensures a striking, durable, and premium kitchen countertop – one that reflects traditional craftsmanship and offers a level of quality that narrower plank or block-style walnut worktops simply cannot match.

The rich, warm tones and intricate grain patterns of English walnut wood further enhance their visual appeal, creating a stunning focal point in kitchens or any area where a touch of natural elegance is desired.

The live edge walnut worktop design celebrates the inherent beauty of the wood, preserving its unique characteristics and ‘imperfections.’ Each walnut worktop tells a story, with knots, cracks, and variations in colour and texture adding character and individuality. This distinctive feature makes every live edge walnut worktop a one-of-a-kind kitchen countertop, reflecting the beauty of nature in its purest form.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, live edge walnut worktops also offer practical benefits. The durable and sturdy nature of walnut wood ensures longevity, making them suitable for daily use. The smooth surface provides a comfortable and hygienic workspace, while the natural oils present in walnut wood as well as finishing offer inherent resistance to bacteria and moisture.

They create a warm and inviting atmosphere, inviting a connection to nature within the confines of modern living spaces. With their timeless beauty and versatility, live edge walnut worktops are a perfect choice for those seeking to infuse their surroundings with natural elegance and a touch of rustic sophistication.

Modern Square Edged Countertops

For those drawn to clean lines and minimalist design, modern square edged walnut countertops provide a polished and contemporary aesthetic. Featuring precise, straight edges, this style of walnut worktop highlights the seamless uniformity of walnut wood, showcasing its rich tones and distinctive grain patterns without distraction. The result is a sophisticated, modern look that fits effortlessly into urban apartments, sleek office spaces, and high-end commercial settings.

The square edge finish is ideal for those who appreciate understated elegance. Its versatility allows it to complement various interior design styles, from industrial to Scandinavian, while maintaining a timeless appeal. Square edged walnut countertops also emphasise modern cabinetry and appliances, creating a cohesive and streamlined kitchen design.

Part Square, Part Live Walnut Worktop – A Stunning Fusion of Live and Square Edges

For a truly unique and breathtaking option, our part square part live walnut worktop style combines the best of both worlds. This instinctive design features square edges for a clean and structured look, accented with subtle waves of live edge detailing that reflect the natural contours of the wood.

First introduced by Earthy Timber for our unique choice of salvaged timbers, mixed edging celebrates the natural beauty of the wood while maintaining a contemporary feel. The smooth transitions between square and live edges create visual interest and ensure each walnut worktop becomes a bespoke statement piece. This combination works particularly well in transitional spaces, where elements of both modern and rustic styles coexist harmoniously.

Wooden Worktop Finishing Options

We provide a range of finishing options for our walnut worktops, tailored to match your intended use and budget:

Unfinished Walnut Worktop

Unfinished walnut worktop is our most cost-effective option and represents a natural stage in the full stave walnut worktop’s craftsmanship journey. The unfinished walnut worktop is produced to the same high structural and material standards as all of our finished walnut worktops and is supplied in a completely raw, unfinished state. These walnut worktops feature open knots, fissures, voids, and unfinished edges typical of characterful timber from salvaged trees. Filling of knots or voids using wood filler, resin, or other materials is optional and entirely at the client’s discretion. Extensive sanding, surface preparation, filling (if desired), and the application of a protective finish are the responsibility of the client. This option is best suited to customers who have the tools, experience, and time to complete the finishing process themselves. It is ideal for hands-on individuals looking to fully customise their walnut worktop from scratch, save on finishing costs, and create a truly unique piece tailored to their space.

Sanded Walnut Worktop

Our sanded walnut worktop arrives fully prepared, meticulously sanded, and ready for the application of your chosen finish. This option is perfect for those looking to save time on preparation while maintaining the ability to customise their worktop’s appearance. Ideal for projects requiring cutouts, it ensures consistency and uniformity of the finish, as you can apply it on-site after all modifications / cut-outs are complete.

Finished Walnut Worktop

Our finished walnut worktops come fully sanded and finished in oil, lacquer with option to upgrade to waterproof protection

Full Stave Walnut Worktop in Lacquer Finish
A lacquer finish provides a clear, durable protective layer over the surface of the solid walnut worktop, preserving its natural, paler tones. This finish beautifully highlights the inherent elegance of walnut without significantly altering its colour. For those who prefer richer, deeper tones of walnut wood, consider opting for an oil or upgrade to waterproof protection instead.

Walnut Countertop in Oil Finish
An oil finish penetrates deeper layers of walnut wood, nourishing it and enhancing its natural palette for a richer, warmer look. This finish requires periodic reapplication to maintain its appearance and protection.

Walnut Countertop in Premium Waterproof Protection
Available exclusively upon request, our premium waterproof protection provides unparalleled protection and durability, ensuring long-lasting resilience with no ongoing maintenance required. This high-end walnut worktop protection enhances the wood’s natural beauty by deepening its tones and grain patterns, resulting in a richer, more luxurious colour palette. Applied in a controlled vacuum environment, this protection is not suitable for walnut worktops requiring size adjustments or cutouts on site. Due to its superior protective properties and advanced waterproofing technology, this option is available at an additional cost. Please contact us for a personalised quote on this premium protection

For detailed information on walnut worktop finishing options, and guidance, please refer to the “Finishing” tab located directly beneath the Full Stave Walnut Worktop Price Calculator.

Cutouts and Walnut Wood Worktop Size Adjustments

For walnut worktops requiring appliance cutouts, we recommend ordering the worktop in a sanded-only option. This allows your installer to complete all cutouts and size adjustments and then apply the finish of your choice on-site, ensuring an even, seamless finish across the entire walnut worktop surface. This approach prevents visible patches or inconsistencies around the cutout areas, resulting in a uniform appearance.

Design Inspirations with Walnut Worktops

The timeless elegance of Earthy Timber’s full stave walnut worktops serves as a versatile canvas for a myriad of design inspirations in the kitchen. Whether paired with crisp white cabinetry for a classic look or juxtaposed against sleek, modern fixtures for a contemporary aesthetic, walnut worktops infuse a sense of warmth and sophistication into any kitchen design scheme.
For traditional kitchens, solid walnut worktops can be complemented by ornate hardware and vintage-inspired accents to create a sense of old world charm. In contrast, in modern kitchens, the rich tones of walnut can be juxtaposed with minimalist cabinetry and sleek, stainless steel appliances for a striking visual contrast.
In open plan kitchen designs, walnut worktops can serve as a unifying element, seamlessly connecting the kitchen space with adjacent living and dining areas. The natural warmth of walnut wood creates a welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal choice for kitchens that double as social hubs within the home.

Surfaces Complementing Full Stave Walnut Kitchen Worktops

When it comes to creating a cohesive and visually stunning traditional or modern kitchen design, choosing countertops that complement walnut kitchen worktops can make a significant impact. From walnut shelves to walnut kitchen islands, walnut breakfast bars, and walnut dining room tables, incorporating walnut countertops throughout your kitchen can elevate the overall aesthetic and create a harmonious space.

One way to enhance the beauty of full stave walnut worktops is by installing matching live edge walnut shelves. These solid walnut shelves can be mounted on the walls, providing both functionality and a seamless flow of design. The rich, warm tones of walnut will beautifully complement the walnut kitchen worktops, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

A walnut kitchen island can serve as a focal point in the kitchen while also providing additional workspace and storage. The natural elegance of walnut adds a touch of sophistication to the island, making it a standout feature. Whether it’s a standalone island or an extension of the kitchen worktop, the combination of full stave walnut worktops and a walnut kitchen island creates a visually striking and cohesive look.

For those who enjoy casual dining or quick meals, a live edge walnut breakfast bar can be a perfect addition. The smooth and luxurious surface of walnut adds a touch of elegance to the space, while also providing a practical and inviting area for enjoying meals. The kitchen breakfast bar can be designed to seamlessly blend with the full stave walnut worktops, creating a unified and stylish kitchen environment.

To complete the overall design, a walnut resin dining room table can be an excellent choice. The natural beauty and durability of walnut make it an ideal material for a dining table. Whether it’s a large, luxurius statement-making dining room table or a smaller, intimate setting, a walnut kitchen table will complement the full stave walnut worktops and create a cohesive flow between the kitchen and dining area.

Harmonised Walnut Wood Grain for Matching Sets

When ordering multiple walnut worktops or combining a walnut dining room table with custom walnut worktops, Earthy Timber will craft these pieces from the same tree, whenever possible. This approach ensures that wood grain patterns, colour tones, and natural features align seamlessly, creating a harmonised, bespoke set with a cohesive and visually stunning aesthetic. By using the same source, we preserve the continuity of the wood’s organic patterns and unique details, resulting in a unified look that brings artistry and elegance to your home or commercial space.

Each walnut worktop is carefully kiln dried, shaped, and finished at Earthy Timber, allowing us to maintain full control over the design process and ensure consistent quality and appearance. Our meticulous walnut worktop manufacturing process, from tree selection to the finished walnut worktop, typically takes 8-12 weeks, with every step tailored to achieve exceptional craftsmanship and enduring beauty.

Luxury Walnut Furniture by Earthy Timber

Earthy Timber operates both a curated Earthy Timber Custom Online Shop Range and an exclusive Earthy Timber Luxury Furniture Range, with both produced to an exceptionally high standard of craftsmanship and material quality.

The key difference lies in intent and execution. Our custom online shop range is designed to deliver high quality, bespoke walnut worktops and furniture pieces that combine practicality with refined aesthetics, all built to the same outstanding quality standards we are known for.

Our luxury range, however, elevates walnut furniture into functional art. These pieces are developed in collaboration with designer AS Stawicki, where design sophistication and techniques are pushed far beyond high quality furniture production. Each piece reflects a highly considered design process and the use of time intensive traditional techniques. These luxury walnut pieces are not simply functional items – they are design statements. The pricing reflects the level of detail and design complexity involved, as well as the artistic intent behind each creation.

Solid Walnut Worktops FAQs

1. Are walnut worktops good for kitchens?

Natural walnut worktops are an excellent choice for kitchens due to their durability, rich colour, and expressive wood grain. At Earthy Timber, we handcraft bespoke walnut worktops using full stave and wide stave construction, creating strong, long lasting surfaces with a premium, seamless appearance.

2. Can walnut worktops be made to measure?

Yes, walnut worktops can be fully made to measure. Earthy Timber specialises in bespoke walnut worktops, custom built to exact size, thickness, and finish, ensuring a precise fit for any kitchen or interior space.

3. What is the difference between full stave and wide stave walnut worktops?

Full stave and wide stave walnut worktops are made from full-length, exceptionally wide solid walnut planks, rather than small block or strip-built construction. At Earthy Timber, this means each solid walnut worktop is formed from long, continuous boards that run the full length of the surface and are extra wide, reducing the number of joins and creating a continuous, natural grain pattern.

This construction differs from small block or finger-jointed worktops, which are made from many short pieces of timber joined together. Earthy Timber’s full length wide plank walnut worktops provide a more seamless, premium finish with a strong, uninterrupted flow of grain across the entire surface.

4. Are stained walnut worktops the same as real solid walnut?

Stained walnut worktops are NOT the same as solid walnut worktops. Staining typically involves applying a colour finish to a different base timber, meaning the surface appearance is not genuine walnut throughout.

In contrast, Earthy Timber handcrafts solid walnut worktops made from full-length, wide plank walnut hardwood, meaning the colour, structure, and performance are consistent throughout the entire worktop.

A key issue with stained alternatives is that any scratch or surface damage can reveal the underlying base wood, exposing a different species and affecting the appearance. Solid walnut does not have this issue, as the material is genuine throughout and can be sanded and refinished to restore its original look.

Earthy Timber only uses genuine solid walnut hardwood for its worktops, ensuring the material is real walnut throughout rather than a surface finish or veneer over a cheaper base. Many lower-cost alternatives are made using softwood cores or engineered substrates with a decorative walnut layer, which do not provide the same hardness, durability, or long-term performance.

In contrast, Earthy Timber walnut worktops are made from solid hardwood, offering superior structural integrity and a significantly longer lifespan. When properly maintained, they are designed for multi-generational use and can be repaired and refinished rather than replaced.

5. Are walnut worktops sustainable?

Walnut worktops from Earthy Timber are made using responsibly sourced and salvaged solid timber, giving salvaged walnut trees a second life as handcrafted, made to measure worktops. This reduces material waste and extends the usable lifecycle of natural hardwood by transforming salvaged timber into durable, functional surfaces.

Unlike lower quality or artificial alternatives such as laminate or engineered boards, solid walnut worktops can be repaired, refinished, and restored to brand new condition rather than replaced. This significantly extends their lifespan and reduces material consumption.

Because they are made from natural solid wood, Earthy Timber walnut worktops can also be repurposed or refinished over time, making them a long term, sustainable choice with a multi-generational lifespan when properly maintained.

6. Where can I buy bespoke walnut worktops in the UK?

Bespoke walnut worktops can be purchased directly from specialist makers. Earthy Timber manufactures handcrafted walnut worktops made to measure and delivers nationwide across the UK mainland, offering a direct-from-the-maker service.

7. Are walnut worktops durable and long lasting?

Walnut worktops are crafted from solid walnut hardwood, they are durable and can last for many generations. Earthy Timber uses high quality walnut and traditional craftsmanship techniques to produce solid wood worktops designed for everyday use and longevity.

8. How Many Planks Are Used in a Walnut Worktop?

At Earthy Timber, the number of planks in a walnut worktop depends on the width, but we always prioritise using fewer, wider boards for a premium finish. A 600mm walnut worktop is typically made from 2 to 3 full-length planks, while a 1000mm wide walnut worktop is usually constructed from 3-4 planks.

This means each Earthy Timber walnut worktop is made using wide walnut planks that run the full length of the surface, creating a seamless grain pattern and a high-end furniture appearance. Unlike many alternative walnut countertops, this avoids excessive joins and showcases the natural beauty of solid walnut.

9. Are Wide Plank Walnut Worktops Better than Narrow Plank or Block Style Walnut Top ?

Yes – wide plank walnut worktops are considered superior in both appearance and quality. By using fewer, wider planks, Earthy Timber walnut worktops achieve a clean, continuous grain and avbalanced, natural look.

In contrast, narrow plank or block-style worktops – commonly used by other suppliers – appear busy and fragmented due to the higher number of joins. While these options may reduce cost, they cannot replicate the premium finish, craftsmanship, or visual impact of wide plank walnut worktop construction.

This is why Earthy Timber walnut worktops stand out, offering a more refined, durable, and authentic product that reflects true woodworking quality.

  2. Caroline J

Earthy Timber created a walnut worktop for our kitchen units length 2 metres, width 60cm and 2.5 metres width 75cm We asked for a square edge at the back and a natural edge at the front. The solid wood worktops and shelves are beautiful, thank you

  3. Joseph

We ordered walnut worktops made of full stave walnut planks, and they look fantastic. They give our kitchen a sophisticated feel with the natural variation of dark chocolaty and gold hues. The countertop stretches from kitchen island to floating breakfast bar/ table area and is very detailed, with a wonderful balance of rusticness and modern form, thanks to resin details in fissures and open knots. The resin infill also makes the walnut worktop very hygienic to use. I was a little bit nervous about ordering a rather expensive kitchen worktop online, but when it arrived perfect size to fit our kitchen island, the end result exceeded our expectations. Thank you Earthy Timber!

  4. Grace Lyndhurst

Having thoroughly researched several companies, we ultimately decided to choose Earthy Timber. What set them apart was not only their ability to provide the exact sizes we were seeking, but also their exceptional, personal and very responsive customer service. Anna, in particular, promptly addressed all of our inquiries. Upon placing our order, we were conveniently given the option to schedule the delivery date to coincide with the kitchen installation. The entire process went incredibly smoothly, and the walnut worktops with resin infusions now look absolutely fantastic. In fact, the kitchen designers were so impressed with Earthy Timber that they requested their contact details to pass along to their own clients. 18 months have passed since then, and I am still incredibly satisfied with the outcome. I am more than happy to highly recommend Earthy Timber – they truly deserve a 5 out of 5 star rating in my book!

  5. Conor

We purchased handcrafted walnut worktop for our kitchen peninsula, along with a piece of walnut upstand to seamlessly cover the uneven wall in our 18th-century cottage. The rich walnut beautifully complements the old oak beams and traditional cabinetry, creating a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary.
We opted for a part-live, part-square edge design, adding character to the piece, and decided to invest a little extra in the waterproof finish for our wooden kitchen island. It was well worth it, providing both durability and an elegant touch.
The result is truly stunning, and everyone who lays eyes on our kitchen can’t help but admire its timeless beauty.
    Thank you Earthy Timber!

Important Information about Dimensions & Natural Variations

Every solid salvaged wood countertop is individually handcrafted from carefully selected timber planks. Because every tree is unique, we do not simply manufacture to a fixed size – we carefully select the combination of boards that will create the most beautiful and visually balanced finished piece while working as close as possible to your requested dimensions.

In some cases, this may mean your countertop is manufactured slightly longer and/or wider than the dimensions requested. This is intentional and allows us to preserve the natural proportions, character, and visual impact of the timber. A small degree of oversizing is a normal part of the bespoke manufacturing process and should not be regarded as a defect.

If your project has strict dimensional requirements – for example, where the countertop must fit precisely between walls, inside a recess, or against existing cabinetry – you must let us know by adding a note in the Notes to Order section when placing your order. Please specify your minimum and/or maximum acceptable dimensions, or clearly state if the dimensions must be exact. If no such instructions are provided, we will assume there is reasonable dimensional flexibility and will manufacture your countertop as close as possible to your requested dimensions while selecting the most suitable timber to achieve the best overall visual result.

If you choose a live edge or part live edge countertop, please remember that the width will naturally fluctuate along its length, following the original profile of the tree. These natural variations are one of the defining features of genuine live edge timber and are what make every piece completely unique.

If your live edge or part live edge project is restricted by width, you must specify the minimum and/or maximum acceptable width in the Notes to Order when placing your order. If no width restrictions are provided, we will assume you are happy for us to determine the final width, prioritising the natural shape of the timber and the overall visual impact of your live edge or part live edge piece, while keeping the finished countertop as close as possible to your requested size.

Finishing Options for Solid Wood Countertops

Unfinished (Raw) – This is our most cost-effective option and represents a natural stage in the countertop’s craftsmanship journey. The unfinished wooden countertop is produced to the same high structural and material standards as all of our finished pieces and is delivered in a completely unfinished state that requires substantial additional work before installation and use.

Delivered unsanded and untreated, this option features open knots, fissures, and natural voids, along with unfinished, non-smooth edges. As this timber is sourced from salvaged trees, these characteristics are to be expected and form part of its rustic charm.

Any filling of knots or voids –  using wood filler, resin, or alternative materials – is entirely at the client’s discretion and should be guided by personal aesthetic preference and intended use. Some clients choose to retain the open features to preserve the timber’s natural, rustic character, while others prefer a smoother, more uniform surface. Extensive sanding, surface preparation, filling (if desired), and the application of a protective finish are all the responsibility of the client. This worktop is not suitable for immediate use upon delivery.

This option is best suited to customers who have the tools, experience, and time to complete the finishing process themselves. It is ideal for hands-on individuals looking to fully customise their solid wood countertop from scratch, save on finishing costs, and create a truly unique piece tailored to their space.

Please note: tables and desks are only available as fully finished, fully protected products.

Fine Sanding Only (Ready for application of the protective finish of your choice) – Offered at a modestly higher cost than our raw (unfinished) option, the sanded countertop is supplied with a fully sanded, smooth surface that is ready for immediate application of the protective finish of your choice. Prominent natural features are professionally filled using resin or organic fillers to enhance visual appearance while preserving the wood’s natural character. Select features may be intentionally left open where they contribute to the piece’s overall aesthetic and natural charm. This option significantly reduces preparation time and is ideal for clients seeking a refined, semi-finished surface without the labour associated with full raw preparation.

Important note for the countertops that require on-site modifications – if your countertop requires on-site size adjustments or cutouts, you should choose either ‘unfinished’ or ‘sanded only’ option. This is because any pre-applied protective finish will be disrupted during your modifications, resulting in visible inconsistencies. If a pre-finished countertop is cut or altered on-site, the newly exposed, and treated by you areas, will not perfectly match the rest of the surface, leading to noticeable patchiness. To ensure a smooth, even finish, we recommend completing all size adjustments and/or cutouts first, then applying the protective treatment of your choice to the entire surface for a flawless result.

Professional Finishing – if  you want to receive your solid wood countertop ready to be used immediately (please note this option is only suitable for countertops that do not require on-site cut-outs or size adjustments), our in-house finishing service is the right choice. We offer 3 protective finishing options. Our natural oil finish enhances the wood’s natural depth and autumnal tones by penetrating deeper layers of timber. If you prefer to maintain the original light tones and textures, our transparent matt lacquer finish forms a barrier against damage without altering the wood’s natural appearance. For additional durability, you can also upgrade l to our signature, maintenance free waterproof protection (additional costs apply).

Fine sanding + subtle sheen oil

The unique properties of oil gradually enrich the wood’s grain, deepening its natural hues and enhancing its warm, autumnal tones.  As the oil penetrates the deeper layers of the solid wood countertop, it creates a protective effect that helps prevent damage even as the top layer naturally fades over time.

One of the key advantages of an oil finish is its easy maintenance – surface imperfections can be repaired with sanding and fresh re-application. However, oil-finished surfaces are more prone to marking from liquids, making them less suitable for kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms.

To keep your solid wood countertop nourished and looking its best, regular re-oiling with light sanding between the coats is essential. This finish is ideal for those who appreciate the natural beauty of wood and don’t mind the upkeep required to maintain its charm.

Please note that an oil finish naturally has a subtle sheen and may bring out slightly orangey undertones in the wood – particularly in lighter species such as oak, ash, or elm.

Fine sanding + matt lacquer

Our matt lacquer finish offers natural look while providing a low-maintenance protection for solid wood countertops. As a cost-effective, water-resistant solution, it is ideal for surfaces exposed to moisture, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms, as well as solid wood tables and breakfast bars.

We offer our lacquer in a matt finish as standard, unless a gloss finish is specifically requested. However, we would advise against opting for gloss finish – it tends to highlight every mark and scratch, making it a less forgiving choice over time.

Unlike oil, which deepens the wood’s tones, matt lacquer preserves the wood’s original colour palette while adding a transparent protective layer. The matt finish not only enhances the wood’s natural beauty but also helps conceal scratches and marks, making it a practical choice for everyday use.
