Made to Measure Reclaimed Wood Desk Top in Oak by Earthy Timber

Reclaimed Wood Desk Top in Oak

Reclaimed wood desk top, handcrafted by Earthy Timber, showcases the natural beauty of salvaged timber. Made exclusively from hardwood trees that died naturally or were removed for safety reasons, it features stunning grain patterns unmatched by plantation trees. Each reclaimed wood desk top is a unique piece, made to measure with sustainability at its core. Perfect for your office, home office, or any workspace, these reclaimed wood desk tops are a blend of rustic charm and modern functionality.

Our oak wood is sourced from salvaged trees, including those from the National Trust , private estates, Natural Resources Wales, Forestry Commission. Thanks to our advanced yet entirely organic timber processing technology and vacuum kiln drying, we transform wood that would otherwise be deemed firewood or unusable into high-quality material. Our process retains the characteristics of the natural wood, celebrating its unique grain, knots, and imperfections while ensuring the highest quality. Each piece is more than just a reclaimed wooden desk top, it is a one-of-a-kind creation with a rich history embedded in its very fibers.

Made to Measure Reclaimed Wood Desktops Crafted with Sustainability in Mind

At Earthy Timber, sustainability is at the heart of our craftsmanship. Every reclaimed wood desk top is custom made to measure, so whether you need a small desk countertop for a home office or a very large reclaimed wood desk top for your business, we can create a solution tailored to your exact measurements and needs. Our commitment to sustainable furniture design means we use only salvaged wood, biodiversity conscious and eco-friendly materials – helping to reduce waste while providing stunning, high quality reclaimed wood modern furniture that stands the test of time. You’re not just purchasing a reclaimed wood desk top, you’re making a conscious choice for the planet.

Reclaimed Wood Desk Top Made of Wide Oak Planks

Our reclaimed wood desk tops are crafted using full stave (full plank) construction, where each individual oak plank runs the entire length of the countertop. The width of each wood stave ranges between 150-350mm, adding to the bold and distinctive look of your reclaimed wood desktop. The beauty of this construction lies in its simplicity and durability, giving you a continuous grain pattern that showcases the rich character of salvaged oak wood. These full plank staves not only enhance the visual appeal of the reclaimed wood desktop but also contribute to its strength and longevity.

While we don’t offer third-party adjustable height legs or bases, we do handcraft custom fixed height steel legs to order. Explore our complete collection of reclaimed wood desks.

Biophilic Design with Rustic Features – Affordable Reclaimed Wood Desk Tops Range

Our reclaimed wood desk tops are crafted with biophilic principles, bringing the serene and grounding essence of nature into your workspace. This affordable range of timber desktops highlights the raw, rustic beauty of the wood, featuring natural splits, open knots, and weathered textures that are left unfilled, unless structural performance requires reinforcement, celebrating the true character of reclaimed wood. This budget-conscious option offers exceptional craftsmanship while preserving a genuine connection to the natural world. For those who prefer a smoother surface with closed knots and voids, our oak resin desk top or resin river desktop may be more suitable, though these options are available at a higher price point.

Why Choose a Reclaimed Hardwood Desk Top Over a Softwood One

At Earthy Timber we exclusively work with hardwoods because reclaimed hardwood desk tops are denser, stronger, and more durable than softwood surfaces. As a result, hardwoods are much less likely to dent or show wear and tear compared to softwoods. This makes hardwood desks a superior long-term investment, as they can withstand the rigors of daily use much better than softwood desks.

While no material is completely immune to damage, hardwood is significantly more resistant to scratches, dents, and marks. Softwood, however, shows signs of wear much more easily.

Be cautious of claims that a hardwearing finish will offer sufficient protection for softwood. Softwood desks will still show marks and wear quickly, regardless of the finish. We recommend making an informed decision and considering the long-term durability of the material.

Redefining the Market with Sustainable Designer Furniture at Earthy Timber

Earthy Timber is at the forefront of sustainable furniture design. We are committed to creating beautiful, functional pieces that are environmentally responsible. Every item in our collection is made from salvaged reclaimed timber, including our reclaimed wood desktops, conference tables or wood shelving ensuring that no new trees are cut down in the process. Our natural wooden sustainable furniture celebrates the natural imperfections of the wood, preserving its story while crafting pieces that are as durable as they are beautiful.

Rustic, Reclaimed Oak Wood Desk Tops – Botanical and Biodegradable

Our reclaimed oak wood desks are botanical in design, drawing inspiration from the natural world with their organic textures and earthy tones. Each piece is biodegradable and made from sustainable, reclaimed timber. The natural rustic oak used in our desktops tells a story through its rustic appearance, with unique markings, splits, and knots that add depth and character to every desk. The unrefined but smooth edges and natural grain patterns evoke a sense of timeless beauty, making these desks a perfect choice for those who value nature-inspired design.

Mindfulness and Deliberation Given to Sustainability

Each reclaimed wood desk top from Earthy Timber is crafted with mindfulness and deliberate care. We celebrate the natural characteristics of the wood, such as splits, knots, and variations in texture, as features rather than flaws. This thoughtful approach to design fosters a deeper connection with nature, encouraging mindfulness in your workspace. By showcasing these natural imperfections, we emphasise the beauty of the materials and the sustainability of our production methods. Our reclaimed wood desks are crafted with the belief that furniture should not only be functional but also enrich the environment and well-being of those who use it.

Unique Imperfections Are Part of the Reclaimed Wood Desk Top Charm

It’s important to note that the imperfections found in our reclaimed wood desk tops- such as splits, open knots, and uneven surfaces – are not defects but are intrinsic to the charm and authenticity of the product. These features tell the story of the wood’s previous life, adding character and making each piece truly one of a kind. The gaps between planks and irregular textures contribute to the rustic appeal of the reclaimed wood desk, creating a timeless aesthetic that honours the natural world.

Complement Your Space with Matching Reclaimed Wood Worktops and Shelves

To complete your office workspace, consider pairing your reclaimed wood desk top with beautifully crafted reclaimed wood worktopsoak shelves that enhance both function and style. These reclaimed wood countertops not only complement the natural aesthetics of your reclaimed wood desk top but also provide additional storage and display options, creating a cohesive look in your home or office.

If you prefer a full reclaimed wood desk rather than just a reclaimed wood desktop for flexible, height-adjustable frames for sit-stand configurations, we also offer sturdy real wood desks on fixed height legs.  For those seeking a more refined aesthetic, we produce luxury executive desks featuring most interesting timber pieces and intricate detailing with resin. These high-end pieces can be explored on our Earthy Timber Luxury Website and reflect the pinnacle of craftsmanship – though they do come at a higher cost, their timeless design and exceptional quality make them a worthwhile investment for discerning customers.

Important Information about Dimensions & Natural Variations

Every solid salvaged wood countertop is individually handcrafted from carefully selected timber planks. Because every tree is unique, we do not simply manufacture to a fixed size – we carefully select the combination of boards that will create the most beautiful and visually balanced finished piece while working as close as possible to your requested dimensions.

In some cases, this may mean your countertop is manufactured slightly longer and/or wider than the dimensions requested. This is intentional and allows us to preserve the natural proportions, character, and visual impact of the timber. A small degree of oversizing is a normal part of the bespoke manufacturing process and should not be regarded as a defect.

If your project has strict dimensional requirements – for example, where the countertop must fit precisely between walls, inside a recess, or against existing cabinetry – you must let us know by adding a note in the Notes to Order section when placing your order. Please specify your minimum and/or maximum acceptable dimensions, or clearly state if the dimensions must be exact. If no such instructions are provided, we will assume there is reasonable dimensional flexibility and will manufacture your countertop as close as possible to your requested dimensions while selecting the most suitable timber to achieve the best overall visual result.

If you choose a live edge or part live edge countertop, please remember that the width will naturally fluctuate along its length, following the original profile of the tree. These natural variations are one of the defining features of genuine live edge timber and are what make every piece completely unique.

If your live edge or part live edge project is restricted by width, you must specify the minimum and/or maximum acceptable width in the Notes to Order when placing your order. If no width restrictions are provided, we will assume you are happy for us to determine the final width, prioritising the natural shape of the timber and the overall visual impact of your live edge or part live edge piece, while keeping the finished countertop as close as possible to your requested size.

Finishing Options for Solid Wood Countertops

Unfinished (Raw) – This is our most cost-effective option and represents a natural stage in the countertop’s craftsmanship journey. The unfinished wooden countertop is produced to the same high structural and material standards as all of our finished pieces and is delivered in a completely unfinished state that requires substantial additional work before installation and use.

Delivered unsanded and untreated, this option features open knots, fissures, and natural voids, along with unfinished, non-smooth edges. As this timber is sourced from salvaged trees, these characteristics are to be expected and form part of its rustic charm.

Any filling of knots or voids –  using wood filler, resin, or alternative materials – is entirely at the client’s discretion and should be guided by personal aesthetic preference and intended use. Some clients choose to retain the open features to preserve the timber’s natural, rustic character, while others prefer a smoother, more uniform surface. Extensive sanding, surface preparation, filling (if desired), and the application of a protective finish are all the responsibility of the client. This worktop is not suitable for immediate use upon delivery.

This option is best suited to customers who have the tools, experience, and time to complete the finishing process themselves. It is ideal for hands-on individuals looking to fully customise their solid wood countertop from scratch, save on finishing costs, and create a truly unique piece tailored to their space.

Please note: tables and desks are only available as fully finished, fully protected products.

Fine Sanding Only (Ready for application of the protective finish of your choice) – Offered at a modestly higher cost than our raw (unfinished) option, the sanded countertop is supplied with a fully sanded, smooth surface that is ready for immediate application of the protective finish of your choice. Prominent natural features are professionally filled using resin or organic fillers to enhance visual appearance while preserving the wood’s natural character. Select features may be intentionally left open where they contribute to the piece’s overall aesthetic and natural charm. This option significantly reduces preparation time and is ideal for clients seeking a refined, semi-finished surface without the labour associated with full raw preparation.

Important note for the countertops that require on-site modifications – if your countertop requires on-site size adjustments or cutouts, you should choose either ‘unfinished’ or ‘sanded only’ option. This is because any pre-applied protective finish will be disrupted during your modifications, resulting in visible inconsistencies. If a pre-finished countertop is cut or altered on-site, the newly exposed, and treated by you areas, will not perfectly match the rest of the surface, leading to noticeable patchiness. To ensure a smooth, even finish, we recommend completing all size adjustments and/or cutouts first, then applying the protective treatment of your choice to the entire surface for a flawless result.

Professional Finishing – if  you want to receive your solid wood countertop ready to be used immediately (please note this option is only suitable for countertops that do not require on-site cut-outs or size adjustments), our in-house finishing service is the right choice. We offer 3 protective finishing options. Our natural oil finish enhances the wood’s natural depth and autumnal tones by penetrating deeper layers of timber. If you prefer to maintain the original light tones and textures, our transparent matt lacquer finish forms a barrier against damage without altering the wood’s natural appearance. For additional durability, you can also upgrade l to our signature, maintenance free waterproof protection (additional costs apply).

Fine sanding + subtle sheen oil

The unique properties of oil gradually enrich the wood’s grain, deepening its natural hues and enhancing its warm, autumnal tones.  As the oil penetrates the deeper layers of the solid wood countertop, it creates a protective effect that helps prevent damage even as the top layer naturally fades over time.

One of the key advantages of an oil finish is its easy maintenance – surface imperfections can be repaired with sanding and fresh re-application. However, oil-finished surfaces are more prone to marking from liquids, making them less suitable for kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms.

To keep your solid wood countertop nourished and looking its best, regular re-oiling with light sanding between the coats is essential. This finish is ideal for those who appreciate the natural beauty of wood and don’t mind the upkeep required to maintain its charm.

Please note that an oil finish naturally has a subtle sheen and may bring out slightly orangey undertones in the wood – particularly in lighter species such as oak, ash, or elm.

Fine sanding + matt lacquer

Our matt lacquer finish offers natural look while providing a low-maintenance protection for solid wood countertops. As a cost-effective, water-resistant solution, it is ideal for surfaces exposed to moisture, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms, as well as solid wood tables and breakfast bars.

We offer our lacquer in a matt finish as standard, unless a gloss finish is specifically requested. However, we would advise against opting for gloss finish – it tends to highlight every mark and scratch, making it a less forgiving choice over time.

Unlike oil, which deepens the wood’s tones, matt lacquer preserves the wood’s original colour palette while adding a transparent protective layer. The matt finish not only enhances the wood’s natural beauty but also helps conceal scratches and marks, making it a practical choice for everyday use.

Fine sandding + waterproof protection + oil / lacquer – matt finish effect

live edge oak desktop by earthy timber waterproof wood protection

Our exclusive, no-maintenance waterproof protection, developed in-house by Earthy Timber, is applied in a vacuum environment –  a process unavailable anywhere else. This cutting-edge treatment provides the highest level of resistance against scratches, stains, and moisture while preserving the natural beauty and tactile feel of your solid wood countertop.

Designed for heavy-use surfaces such as dining tables and bathroom countertops, this advanced finish is highly resistant to water, heat, alcohol, and food acids. It also features a non-yellowing, UV-protected formula, ensuring your countertop remains flawless for years without the need for reapplication.

With its matt finish, Earthy Timber’s waterproof protection amplifies the wood’s natural grain and tones, adding depth while maintaining its organic beauty. Unlike glossy finishes that may alter the timber’s appearance, our waterproof treatment enhances the wood’s character in a subtle, authentic way.

For those seeking the ultimate protection with zero maintenance, this premium finish is available upon request for an additional cost. To add it to your order, please email us.
