Live Edge Walnut Table by Earthy Timber

Handcrafted Walnut Table

From sourcing salvaged timber and vacuum kiln drying to precision shaping, resin enhancements, and finishing, Earthy® Timber is the UK’s only manufacturer offering fully in-house tree to walnut table craftsmanship. Our live edge walnut tables are made from wide walnut slabs with custom sizing, edge profiles, and durable finishes available. Each walnut table is built to order, ensuring both structural integrity and striking visual impact – bringing a sense of grandeur to your space.

Crafted From Salvaged Walnut

At Earthy® Timber, a live edge walnut table is more than just furniture – it is a true celebration of nature, preserving the raw, organic beauty of the tree. Each walnut table is handcrafted from salvaged walnut, carefully selected for its exceptional grain, strength, and deeply expressive character.

No healthy trees are felled. All our walnut is responsibly sourced from parklands, private estates, National Trust and woodlands, where the trees have reached the natural end of their life. Grown wild, not farmed, these trees develop in diverse conditions over decades – resulting in timber with exquisite swirling grain, deep tonal contrasts, bold figuring, and intricate knots unique to English walnut.

The walnut live edges, preserved in their natural, undulating form, carefully smoothed by hand, highlight the individuality of each walnut table and create a striking, sculptural presence. These rich, irregular patterns and textures of Earthy Timber live edge tables simply cannot be replicated by plantation grown or commercially processed timber.

Walnut Table – Handcrafted In-House, Start to Finish

Earthy Timber is the only furniture manufacturer in the UK to control every stage of production under one roof. From timber sourcing and vacuum kiln drying, to shaping, resin enhancements, and finishing – every step of walnut table creation is carried out in-house by our experienced team.

This integrated approach not only ensures exceptional quality, consistency, and full transparency, but also allows us to offer highly competitive pricing for our designer furniture, as there is no middleman involved. With our own wood yard and timber vacuum kiln drying facilities, we are entirely self-sufficient and not reliant on third-party timber suppliers – giving you complete confidence in both the origin and craftsmanship of your walnut table.

Timber Vacuum Kiln Dried for Precision, Strength & Long-Term Stability

At Earthy® Timber, we don’t take shortcuts when it comes to preserving the integrity of our wood. Every walnut slab is vacuum kiln dried in-house by our team – an essential step in creating designer furniture that not only looks extraordinary but is built to last for generations.

Drying English walnut, especially in large, live-edge form, requires extensive knowledge and precision. Unlike mass-produced timber or standard kiln-drying methods, vacuum kiln drying in small batches enables us to control temperature, pressure, and airflow at a micro level. This allows for gentle, even timber drying throughout the entire slab, reducing internal stress that can cause warping, twisting, or cracking – common issues in improperly dried hardwoods.

Different timber species, slab thicknesses, and grain structures require distinct drying profiles, and our experts tailor each cycle accordingly. Whether it’s a dense, wide wood slab intended for a walnut dining table or a thinner piece for walnut shelving, our team adjusts the process with surgical precision to reach the optimal moisture content.

This method also plays a critical role in resin work, ensuring precise moisture removal before any application – essential for bond strength, clarity, and long-term durability. With full in-house control of the process, we guarantee stable, high-performance timber that’s perfectly prepared for finishing and everyday use.

In short, our wood vacuum kiln drying isn’t just a technical step – it’s a foundation of our craftsmanship, and a reason why an Earthy® Timber walnut table performs as beautifully as it looks.

Live Edge Walnut Table – Wide Plank Design

We work with exceptionally wide, full-length slabs of walnut. This allows us to craft walnut tables with minimal joins, letting the natural grain and figure of the wood flow across the surface. The result is a striking, organic walnut table look that highlights timber’s deep colour and texture.

We offer a range of live edge options designed to complement both your aesthetic preferences and practical needs. Each walnut table is crafted to highlight the natural beauty of walnut wood while offering exceptional versatility in how it can be used.

Live Edge Options for Your Walnut Table

A double live edge walnut table retains the organic contour on both long sides, creating a sculptural, statement-making presence. It’s ideal for open-plan spaces where the table can be appreciated from every angle. A single live edge walnut table, with one natural and one straight edge, is a great option for placement against a wall – perfect for maximising functionality in a smaller room while still offering a distinctive natural touch. A part live part square edge walnut table combines a straight edge with a live edge on one or both sides. This hybrid style blends modern lines with rustic charm, making it ideal for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Regardless of the edge profile you choose, every walnut table is designed by Earthy Timber with multi-functionality in mind. It can serve effortlessly as a walnut dining table, a walnut kitchen table, a walnut kitchen island extension table, or a home office walnut desk. The timeless design and solid  craftsmanship ensure that your walnut table adapts seamlessly as your space and needs evolve – whether you’re gathering with family, working from home, or entertaining guests.

Natural Resin Enhancements for Walnut Table

Natural imperfections like knots and cracks in Earthy Timber’s walnut tables are retained and thoughtfully enhanced with resin infills. These are applied sparingly to preserve the wood’s structure and elevate its natural beauty – never overpowering its organic character.

Resin is not simply a filler, it is a specialist material with bonding and stabilising properties, chosen for its ability to reinforce the timber where needed while maintaining its texture and timeless charm.

In our custom online shop collection, we embrace the natural features of English walnut – knots, surface splits, and small voids, that give each walnut table its unique identity. These areas are carefully filled using a high-quality, non-transparent resin that complements the wood’s rich tone and texture. This process not only enhances visual appeal but also creates a smooth, hygienic surface, preventing dirt or crumbs from gathering in open crevices.

Custom Size Walnut Table

At Earthy® Timber, every walnut table is individually handcrafted and made to order, allowing us to tailor dimensions precisely to your space and needs. Whether you require a compact breakfast bar table or creating a statement dining table, we craft bespoke walnut tables to seat 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 people or more – with size, edging and finish that work in perfect harmony with your interior.

Unlike off-the-shelf furniture, our custom walnut table is made to fit – not forced into a space. From narrow galley kitchens to generous open-plan kitchen dining rooms, we work with your exact measurements to ensure your solid walnut table feels balanced, functional, and proportionate.

Thanks to our in-house wood yard, drying facilities, and design team, every detail is controlled under one roof – from timber selection to finishing – giving you a seamless, truly bespoke walnut dining table built around the way you live.

Perfect as a walnut dining table, walnut kitchen table, walnut kitchen island extension, or even a dual-purpose walnut desk table and dining solution, our tailored walnut furniture offers not just beauty but smart, space-aware design for modern homes.

Walnut Table Finishing Options

You can choose from three finishing options, depending on your visual appearance, budget and maintenance preferences:

  • Walnut Table in Matt Lacquer – A clean, durable finish that protects and keeps walnut’s natural tones light

  • Walnut Table in Oil Finish – Enhances the warm hues and depth of the grain but requires regular reapplication with sanding between coats of oil

  • Walnut Table in Matt, Maintenance-Free Waterproof Finish – Offers the best moisture, stain, and scratch resistance with a rich, natural look. Ideal for high-traffic use. Additional charge applies

Bespoke Table Bases Designed for your Walnut Table

Our solid walnut tables are substantial in both weight and presence, requiring thoughtfully designed support for lasting performance. We recommend pairing your walnut table with one of our custom-made bases, which are engineered in-house to precisely match the dimensions, weight, and construction of your bespoke walnut table.

In addition, we can accommodate custom height requests, ensuring your walnut table meets your specific ergonomic or design needs – whether for dining, kitchen use, or as a dual-purpose desk and table. Every detail is carefully considered to deliver a walnut table that functions beautifully and feels right in your space.

Matching Walnut Products

We offer matching walnut pieces for a cohesive space. You can order coordinated walnut shelves, walnut breakfast bar, walnut kitchen island worktop, or full stave walnut worktops – all from the same timber batch where possible for tonal and grain consistency.

Edge Profiles:

solid wood top edges live edge square edge waney edge

Wood edges corresponding to the grain direction  (usually long edges) are eligible for customisation. Choose between any combination of the following: live edge, square edge, part live & part square edge.

Vertical to grain direction edges are always square (usually the short edges).

Square edge wood top

solid wood walnut worktop square edge

As the name implies, all the top edges are finished with a straight edge to give it a traditional finish.

All our square edges are eased by hand. By taking sharpness off the wood edge (contour, border, outline), we accomplish soft, pleasant to touch edge,  whilst preserving crisp, sharp, contemporary appearance.

This edge style showcases the wood’s natural contours, resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece that highlights the character of the material.

Countertop Width (Depth) Considerations:

– On average, the width of a live edge countertop can fluctuate within a 100mm range, depending on the natural shape of the tree, so please ensure you take this into account when specifing the countertop’s width.

– If no restrictions are provided, we will allow the part live part square edge to flow naturally while ensuring functionality

– Certain natural curves and protrusions may be subtly adjusted to achieve the best balance of aesthetics and practicality

– When quoting/placing an order, the width provided in the quotation /order should reflect the average measurement you’d like your edge to oscillate around

Important Information about Dimensions & Natural Variations

Every solid salvaged wood countertop is individually handcrafted from carefully selected timber planks. Because every tree is unique, we do not simply manufacture to a fixed size – we carefully select the combination of boards that will create the most beautiful and visually balanced finished piece while working as close as possible to your requested dimensions.

In some cases, this may mean your countertop is manufactured slightly longer and/or wider than the dimensions requested. This is intentional and allows us to preserve the natural proportions, character, and visual impact of the timber. A small degree of oversizing is a normal part of the bespoke manufacturing process and should not be regarded as a defect.

If your project has strict dimensional requirements – for example, where the countertop must fit precisely between walls, inside a recess, or against existing cabinetry – you must let us know by adding a note in the Notes to Order section when placing your order. Please specify your minimum and/or maximum acceptable dimensions, or clearly state if the dimensions must be exact. If no such instructions are provided, we will assume there is reasonable dimensional flexibility and will manufacture your countertop as close as possible to your requested dimensions while selecting the most suitable timber to achieve the best overall visual result.

If you choose a live edge or part live edge countertop, please remember that the width will naturally fluctuate along its length, following the original profile of the tree. These natural variations are one of the defining features of genuine live edge timber and are what make every piece completely unique.

If your live edge or part live edge project is restricted by width, you must specify the minimum and/or maximum acceptable width in the Notes to Order when placing your order. If no width restrictions are provided, we will assume you are happy for us to determine the final width, prioritising the natural shape of the timber and the overall visual impact of your live edge or part live edge piece, while keeping the finished countertop as close as possible to your requested size.

Finishing Options for Solid Wood Countertops

Unfinished (Raw) – This is our most cost-effective option and represents a natural stage in the countertop’s craftsmanship journey. The unfinished wooden countertop is produced to the same high structural and material standards as all of our finished pieces and is delivered in a completely unfinished state that requires substantial additional work before installation and use.

Delivered unsanded and untreated, this option features open knots, fissures, and natural voids, along with unfinished, non-smooth edges. As this timber is sourced from salvaged trees, these characteristics are to be expected and form part of its rustic charm.

Any filling of knots or voids –  using wood filler, resin, or alternative materials – is entirely at the client’s discretion and should be guided by personal aesthetic preference and intended use. Some clients choose to retain the open features to preserve the timber’s natural, rustic character, while others prefer a smoother, more uniform surface. Extensive sanding, surface preparation, filling (if desired), and the application of a protective finish are all the responsibility of the client. This worktop is not suitable for immediate use upon delivery.

This option is best suited to customers who have the tools, experience, and time to complete the finishing process themselves. It is ideal for hands-on individuals looking to fully customise their solid wood countertop from scratch, save on finishing costs, and create a truly unique piece tailored to their space.

Please note: tables and desks are only available as fully finished, fully protected products.

Fine Sanding Only (Ready for application of the protective finish of your choice) – Offered at a modestly higher cost than our raw (unfinished) option, the sanded countertop is supplied with a fully sanded, smooth surface that is ready for immediate application of the protective finish of your choice. Prominent natural features are professionally filled using resin or organic fillers to enhance visual appearance while preserving the wood’s natural character. Select features may be intentionally left open where they contribute to the piece’s overall aesthetic and natural charm. This option significantly reduces preparation time and is ideal for clients seeking a refined, semi-finished surface without the labour associated with full raw preparation.

Important note for the countertops that require on-site modifications – if your countertop requires on-site size adjustments or cutouts, you should choose either ‘unfinished’ or ‘sanded only’ option. This is because any pre-applied protective finish will be disrupted during your modifications, resulting in visible inconsistencies. If a pre-finished countertop is cut or altered on-site, the newly exposed, and treated by you areas, will not perfectly match the rest of the surface, leading to noticeable patchiness. To ensure a smooth, even finish, we recommend completing all size adjustments and/or cutouts first, then applying the protective treatment of your choice to the entire surface for a flawless result.

Professional Finishing – if  you want to receive your solid wood countertop ready to be used immediately (please note this option is only suitable for countertops that do not require on-site cut-outs or size adjustments), our in-house finishing service is the right choice. We offer 3 protective finishing options. Our natural oil finish enhances the wood’s natural depth and autumnal tones by penetrating deeper layers of timber. If you prefer to maintain the original light tones and textures, our transparent matt lacquer finish forms a barrier against damage without altering the wood’s natural appearance. For additional durability, you can also upgrade l to our signature, maintenance free waterproof protection (additional costs apply).

Fine sanding + subtle sheen oil

The unique properties of oil gradually enrich the wood’s grain, deepening its natural hues and enhancing its warm, autumnal tones.  As the oil penetrates the deeper layers of the solid wood countertop, it creates a protective effect that helps prevent damage even as the top layer naturally fades over time.

One of the key advantages of an oil finish is its easy maintenance – surface imperfections can be repaired with sanding and fresh re-application. However, oil-finished surfaces are more prone to marking from liquids, making them less suitable for kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms.

To keep your solid wood countertop nourished and looking its best, regular re-oiling with light sanding between the coats is essential. This finish is ideal for those who appreciate the natural beauty of wood and don’t mind the upkeep required to maintain its charm.

Please note that an oil finish naturally has a subtle sheen and may bring out slightly orangey undertones in the wood – particularly in lighter species such as oak, ash, or elm.

Fine sanding + matt lacquer

Our matt lacquer finish offers natural look while providing a low-maintenance protection for solid wood countertops. As a cost-effective, water-resistant solution, it is ideal for surfaces exposed to moisture, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms, as well as solid wood tables and breakfast bars.

We offer our lacquer in a matt finish as standard, unless a gloss finish is specifically requested. However, we would advise against opting for gloss finish – it tends to highlight every mark and scratch, making it a less forgiving choice over time.

Unlike oil, which deepens the wood’s tones, matt lacquer preserves the wood’s original colour palette while adding a transparent protective layer. The matt finish not only enhances the wood’s natural beauty but also helps conceal scratches and marks, making it a practical choice for everyday use.

Fine sandding + waterproof protection + oil / lacquer – matt finish effect

live edge oak desktop by earthy timber waterproof wood protection

Our exclusive, no-maintenance waterproof protection, developed in-house by Earthy Timber, is applied in a vacuum environment –  a process unavailable anywhere else. This cutting-edge treatment provides the highest level of resistance against scratches, stains, and moisture while preserving the natural beauty and tactile feel of your solid wood countertop.

Designed for heavy-use surfaces such as dining tables and bathroom countertops, this advanced finish is highly resistant to water, heat, alcohol, and food acids. It also features a non-yellowing, UV-protected formula, ensuring your countertop remains flawless for years without the need for reapplication.

With its matt finish, Earthy Timber’s waterproof protection amplifies the wood’s natural grain and tones, adding depth while maintaining its organic beauty. Unlike glossy finishes that may alter the timber’s appearance, our waterproof treatment enhances the wood’s character in a subtle, authentic way.

For those seeking the ultimate protection with zero maintenance, this premium finish is available upon request for an additional cost. To add it to your order, please email us.
