Custom Kitchen Peninsula, Oak Kitchen Island Worktop Crafted from Full Stave, Wide Wood Planks

Unlike mass-produced wood worktop alternatives, each Earthy Timber’s  oak kitchen island worktop, oak kitchen peninsula worktop is individually crafted to highlight the natural grain patterns and distinctive features of salvaged wood. Designed specifically to fit your unique kitchen island, kitchen peninsula dimensions, our rustic oak worktops are not simply cut from generic stock but tailor made to enhance your space. Our talented artisans ensure that the wood grain flows seamlessly along the countertop of your kitchen island or kitchen peninsula, creating a beautiful, cohesive piece rather than a collection of random narrow blocks. The full stave and very wide wood planks used in our oak kitchen island worktops exude a level of sophistication that narrow stave or block worktops from mass production simply cannot match. Furthermore, the individuality of salvaged wood ensures that no two oak kitchen island worktop, kitchen peninsula worktop pieces are ever the same, offering an exclusive and inimitable addition to your kitchen.

Oak Kitchen Island Worktop Durability with Kiln Dried Oak

Durability is key when it comes to an oak kitchen island wood worktop, kitchen peninsula worktop and Earthy Timber ensures long-lasting quality. Our timber is vacuum kiln dried in-house to reduce moisture levels below 10%, making it highly resistant to warping and cracking. Unlike bulk-dried timber used by many manufacturers, our precision timber kiln drying process guarantees superior stability, ensuring that your oak kitchen island worktop, oak kitchen peninsula worktop withstands everyday kitchen activities for generations to come.

Kitchen Island, Kitchen Peninsula Oak Worktop Edging Options

The edge profile can transform the overall aesthetic of your oak kitchen island worktop. At Earthy Timber we offer three distinct edging options, each designed to highlight the natural beauty of the wood while complementing your kitchen’s style. Each worktop edge style is carefully shaped and finished by our expert craftsmen, ensuring a seamless, high quality result that enhances your oak kitchen island’s functionality and visual appeal.

For the best results, we recommend leaving the choice between live edge and part live edge in the hands of our experts, who instinctively know which option will work best with the wood plank’s natural features, shape and your desired size of the countertop.

Live Edge Kitchen Island Oak Worktop

Our live edge kitchen island worktop option preserves the raw, organic shape of the tree, creating a truly unique, nature inspired centrepiece for your kitchen. The live edge follows the natural contours, highlighting the tree’s original form with its raw, flowing lines and organic curves. This unique detail ensures that no two oak kitchen island worktops are alike, celebrating the beauty of natural wood while adding a warm, earthy character to your space.

For live edge worktops, you’ll need to specify a minimum and maximum width that works for your oak kitchen island worktop, kitchen peninsula worktop – for example, no less than 900mm and no more than 990mm wide. This allows for natural fluctuations in the wood while still meeting your worktop size requirements. If your tolerance is less than 80mm, a live edge may not be the best fit, and our part live, part square option could be a better choice for balancing organic character with restricted scope of live edge restrictions.

Part Live Part Square (Mixed Edge) Oak Kitchen Island Worktop

For those who want a balance between rustic and contemporary, our part live, part square edge option combines the best of both worlds – keeping some of the wood’s natural contours while introducing clean, straight cuts for a refined look. This design allows you to showcase the organic beauty of a live edge while maintaining a structured, modern aesthetic that fits seamlessly into any kitchen style. The combination of natural curves and straight edges offers a unique visual contrast, blending rustic charm with a refined finish.

To ensure we meet your required dimensions while preserving the natural beauty of the wood, we ask that you provide a minimum and maximum acceptable width of the worktop – for example, no less than 900mm and no more than 980mm. This allows for the natural variations in the live edge while ensuring the wooden worktop fits your space. If you need a tighter tolerance of less than 80mm, this part live, part square option is a great choice, as the squared edge sections provide more control over the final dimensions while still showcasing the wood’s raw, organic character in places.

Square Edge (Straight Edge) Oak Kitchen Island Worktop

If you prefer a sleek, minimalist aesthetic, our square-edged oak kitchen island worktop provides a crisp, modern finish, showcasing the exquisite grain of our kiln-dried oak with precision.

Finishing Options for Oak Kitchen Island, Peninsula Worktops

Choose from our range of finishing options to suit your oak kitchen island worktop, kitchen peninsula worktop installation needs. We highly recommend choosing the fine sanding option if you need to complete cut-outs for appliances, sinks, or any other on-site adjustments. This approach guarantees a uniform application of your preferred finish. If we pre-finish the wooden worktop with oil or lacquer before installation and you later make modifications, the finish may appear uneven or patchy.

Fine Sanded Oak Kitchen Island Worktop

Our fine sanded oak kitchen island worktop offers a smooth, pre-sanded surface that is ready for the application of your desired finish. This option ensures that once your installer completes all necessary size adjustments or cut-outs, you can achieve a consistent and even finish across the entire surface.

Unfinished (Raw) Oak Kitchen Island Worktop

This is our most cost-effective option and represents a natural stage in the kitchen island oak worktop craftsmanship journey. The unfinished kitchen island oak worktop is produced to the same high structural and material standards as all of our finished oak kitchen island worktops and is supplied in a completely raw, unfinished state. These kitchen island oak worktops feature open knots, fissures, voids, and unfinished edges typical of characterful timber from salvaged trees. Smooting the edges, filling of knots or voids using wood filler, resin, or other materials is optional and entirely at the client’s discretion. Extensive sanding, surface preparation, filling (if desired), and the application of a protective finish are the responsibility of the client. This option is best suited to customers who have the tools, experience, and time to complete the finishing process themselves. It is ideal for hands-on individuals looking to fully customise their kitchen island oak worktop from scratch, save on finishing costs, and create a truly unique piece tailored to their space.

Oak Kitchen Island Worktop in Oil Finish

For those who appreciate a natural look and feel, our oil finish  enhances the rich tones and intricate grain of the oak while providing a breathable layer of protection. This subtle sheen option allows the wood to develop character over time, deepening in beauty with use. Regular reapplication with light sanding between coats is required to maintain its beauty and resistance to daily wear.

Oak Kitchen Island Worktop in Lacquer Finish

For a more durable, low-maintenance option, our matt lacquer finish provides a hardwearing, sealed surface that offers adequate resistance against spills, stains, and general kitchen activities. This finish is ideal for those seeking a smooth, polished appearance with enhanced protection, making it a practical, low cost choice.

Oak Kitchen Island Worktop Waterproof Protection (Available on Request at an Additional Cost)

For superior durability, we offer a specialist matt waterproof protection treatment, completed in a vacuum-controlled environment. This process enhances the wood’s resistance to moisture and liquids, ensuring longevity even in high-humidity areas. Due to the precision application required, we do not offer this option for oak kitchen island worktops that will require adjustments or cutouts (such as sink or hob cutouts) on site. If you’re interested in our matt waterproof protection, please contact us directly for a quote.

Sustainable Craftsmanship – Beauty with a Conscience

Sustainability is at the core of Earthy Timber’s philosophy. Our oak kitchen island worktops and oak kitchen peninsula countertops are crafted from salvaged wood, reducing waste and promoting eco-conscious living. Sustainable timber comes from trees that had to be cut due to illness or natural death, never from healthy trees – we strongly believe in preserving them for future generations. By using wood that would otherwise be turned into firewood, we help protect the environment while offering you a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture, rich in history and character.

The timber is precisely kiln-dried in our high-spec vacuum kiln, which tightens the grain and enhances the wood’s natural strength while preserving its stunning organic features. This meticulous process ensures durability and stability, so your oak worktop not only looks beautiful but also stands the test of time. Natural features such as knots, splits, grain and colour variations are celebrated, adding to the uniqueness of each piece, making it truly special.

Rustic Features in Solid Wood Kitchen Islands and Peninsulas

To further highlight the unique beauty of your oak kitchen island or peninsula worktop, we can incorporate resin fills or wood fillers to secure open knots and natural features. This technique enhances the rustic charm of solid wood while ensuring a smooth, functional surface. Epoxy resin accents not only preserve the character of the wood but also transform its natural imperfections into beautiful design elements.

No Waste – Pay Only for the Size You Need

With our bespoke, made to order oak kitchen island worktops, oak kitchen peninsula countertops you only pay for the exact size you need. Important Information about Dimensions & Natural Variations

Every solid salvaged wood countertop is individually handcrafted from carefully selected timber planks. Because every tree is unique, we do not simply manufacture to a fixed size – we carefully select the combination of boards that will create the most beautiful and visually balanced finished piece while working as close as possible to your requested dimensions.

In some cases, this may mean your countertop is manufactured slightly longer and/or wider than the dimensions requested. This is intentional and allows us to preserve the natural proportions, character, and visual impact of the timber. A small degree of oversizing is a normal part of the bespoke manufacturing process and should not be regarded as a defect.

If your project has strict dimensional requirements – for example, where the countertop must fit precisely between walls, inside a recess, or against existing cabinetry – you must let us know by adding a note in the Notes to Order section when placing your order. Please specify your minimum and/or maximum acceptable dimensions, or clearly state if the dimensions must be exact. If no such instructions are provided, we will assume there is reasonable dimensional flexibility and will manufacture your countertop as close as possible to your requested dimensions while selecting the most suitable timber to achieve the best overall visual result.

If you choose a live edge or part live edge countertop, please remember that the width will naturally fluctuate along its length, following the original profile of the tree. These natural variations are one of the defining features of genuine live edge timber and are what make every piece completely unique.

If your live edge or part live edge project is restricted by width, you must specify the minimum and/or maximum acceptable width in the Notes to Order when placing your order. If no width restrictions are provided, we will assume you are happy for us to determine the final width, prioritising the natural shape of the timber and the overall visual impact of your live edge or part live edge piece, while keeping the finished countertop as close as possible to your requested size.

Finishing Options for Solid Wood Countertops

Unfinished (Raw) – This is our most cost-effective option and represents a natural stage in the countertop’s craftsmanship journey. The unfinished wooden countertop is produced to the same high structural and material standards as all of our finished pieces and is delivered in a completely unfinished state that requires substantial additional work before installation and use.

Delivered unsanded and untreated, this option features open knots, fissures, and natural voids, along with unfinished, non-smooth edges. As this timber is sourced from salvaged trees, these characteristics are to be expected and form part of its rustic charm.

Any filling of knots or voids –  using wood filler, resin, or alternative materials – is entirely at the client’s discretion and should be guided by personal aesthetic preference and intended use. Some clients choose to retain the open features to preserve the timber’s natural, rustic character, while others prefer a smoother, more uniform surface. Extensive sanding, surface preparation, filling (if desired), and the application of a protective finish are all the responsibility of the client. This worktop is not suitable for immediate use upon delivery.

This option is best suited to customers who have the tools, experience, and time to complete the finishing process themselves. It is ideal for hands-on individuals looking to fully customise their solid wood countertop from scratch, save on finishing costs, and create a truly unique piece tailored to their space.

Please note: tables and desks are only available as fully finished, fully protected products.

Fine Sanding Only (Ready for application of the protective finish of your choice) – Offered at a modestly higher cost than our raw (unfinished) option, the sanded countertop is supplied with a fully sanded, smooth surface that is ready for immediate application of the protective finish of your choice. Prominent natural features are professionally filled using resin or organic fillers to enhance visual appearance while preserving the wood’s natural character. Select features may be intentionally left open where they contribute to the piece’s overall aesthetic and natural charm. This option significantly reduces preparation time and is ideal for clients seeking a refined, semi-finished surface without the labour associated with full raw preparation.

Important note for the countertops that require on-site modifications – if your countertop requires on-site size adjustments or cutouts, you should choose either ‘unfinished’ or ‘sanded only’ option. This is because any pre-applied protective finish will be disrupted during your modifications, resulting in visible inconsistencies. If a pre-finished countertop is cut or altered on-site, the newly exposed, and treated by you areas, will not perfectly match the rest of the surface, leading to noticeable patchiness. To ensure a smooth, even finish, we recommend completing all size adjustments and/or cutouts first, then applying the protective treatment of your choice to the entire surface for a flawless result.

Professional Finishing – if  you want to receive your solid wood countertop ready to be used immediately (please note this option is only suitable for countertops that do not require on-site cut-outs or size adjustments), our in-house finishing service is the right choice. We offer 3 protective finishing options. Our natural oil finish enhances the wood’s natural depth and autumnal tones by penetrating deeper layers of timber. If you prefer to maintain the original light tones and textures, our transparent matt lacquer finish forms a barrier against damage without altering the wood’s natural appearance. For additional durability, you can also upgrade l to our signature, maintenance free waterproof protection (additional costs apply).

Fine sanding + subtle sheen oil

The unique properties of oil gradually enrich the wood’s grain, deepening its natural hues and enhancing its warm, autumnal tones.  As the oil penetrates the deeper layers of the solid wood countertop, it creates a protective effect that helps prevent damage even as the top layer naturally fades over time.

One of the key advantages of an oil finish is its easy maintenance – surface imperfections can be repaired with sanding and fresh re-application. However, oil-finished surfaces are more prone to marking from liquids, making them less suitable for kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms.

To keep your solid wood countertop nourished and looking its best, regular re-oiling with light sanding between the coats is essential. This finish is ideal for those who appreciate the natural beauty of wood and don’t mind the upkeep required to maintain its charm.

Please note that an oil finish naturally has a subtle sheen and may bring out slightly orangey undertones in the wood – particularly in lighter species such as oak, ash, or elm.

Fine sanding + matt lacquer

Our matt lacquer finish offers natural look while providing a low-maintenance protection for solid wood countertops. As a cost-effective, water-resistant solution, it is ideal for surfaces exposed to moisture, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms, as well as solid wood tables and breakfast bars.

We offer our lacquer in a matt finish as standard, unless a gloss finish is specifically requested. However, we would advise against opting for gloss finish – it tends to highlight every mark and scratch, making it a less forgiving choice over time.

Unlike oil, which deepens the wood’s tones, matt lacquer preserves the wood’s original colour palette while adding a transparent protective layer. The matt finish not only enhances the wood’s natural beauty but also helps conceal scratches and marks, making it a practical choice for everyday use.

Fine sandding + waterproof protection + oil / lacquer – matt finish effect

live edge oak desktop by earthy timber waterproof wood protection

Our exclusive, no-maintenance waterproof protection, developed in-house by Earthy Timber, is applied in a vacuum environment –  a process unavailable anywhere else. This cutting-edge treatment provides the highest level of resistance against scratches, stains, and moisture while preserving the natural beauty and tactile feel of your solid wood countertop.

Designed for heavy-use surfaces such as dining tables and bathroom countertops, this advanced finish is highly resistant to water, heat, alcohol, and food acids. It also features a non-yellowing, UV-protected formula, ensuring your countertop remains flawless for years without the need for reapplication.

With its matt finish, Earthy Timber’s waterproof protection amplifies the wood’s natural grain and tones, adding depth while maintaining its organic beauty. Unlike glossy finishes that may alter the timber’s appearance, our waterproof treatment enhances the wood’s character in a subtle, authentic way.

For those seeking the ultimate protection with zero maintenance, this premium finish is available upon request for an additional cost. To add it to your order, please email us.

3 reviews for Kitchen Island Oak Worktop

  1. Sophie

Earthy Timber did a fantastic job to make us an L shaped breakfast bar for our new kitchen. The worktop was made from two planks of oak. The team gave us a bespoke piece with part live, part square finish on the seating side of the breakfast bar. They created robust supports for the overhang and a beautiful mitre finish to join pieces into an L shape. Anna’s service was brilliant and very thorough. There was even a mistake with the measurements from our carpenter, which Anna identified and then made sure the 30 mm length error was corrected before they started the work. We are particularly pleased we invested in the waterproof finish. This was totally worth it, as we never have to oil the worktop. All we do is wipe it clean with water and it comes up beautifully, mark-free, every time. We highly recommend investing in this wonderful rustic oak worktop, which gives our home a unique, warm and homely feel.

  2. Eleanor

We received the most beautiful oak wavy dining table that’s 250cm by 100cm with epoxy resin enhancements. I cannot recommend Earthy Timber highly enough.

  3. Sally, Chalfont Saint Giles, UK

I ordered custom size 2000 x 1200 mm rustic oak kitchen island worktop with pronounced wood grain from Earthy Timber to contrast the lightness of our white marble surfaces. The feature wood kitchen island worktop defines our modern, chic open plan kitchen and adds rustic vibe and warmth to otherwise clinical white space. Earthy Timber, we will be back for a matching oak dining table soon!
