Unique, bespoke earthy resin infused walnut benches that give a unique sense of natural organic styled beauty. Designed and hand-crafted in-house by our experts.
Our beautiful bespoke earthy walnut benches are hand-crafted from our unique range of full stave, wide stave slabs that we exclusively source from sustainable forests and woodlands across the UK. We then vacuum kiln dry our walnut slabs on-site to ensure maximum longevity and protection against warping and disfigurement. We craft our stunning and unique benches from our timber yard and workshop in Plumpton Green, Sussex, just a short drive between London and Brighton making us highly accessible across the UK with the availability of delivering abroad.
Our benches promise a unique sense of organic natural beauty that adds subtle interest and character to your home or commercial space. Our benches are suitable for all types of environments whether it be modern and contemporary or rural and rustic and are adaptable for all types of environments whether it be for home use or for a busy restaurant, pub or coffee shop.
Our benches are available with our live/ waney edging for a more rural rustic appeal, or with our straight/ square edging for a more modern contemporary feel. Alternatively, we can offer our mixed edging for a combination of both edging styles. We adore the natural imperfections of our timber such as the knots, cracks and striations, so we delicately infuse them with epoxy resin to create stunning glassy surfaces full of charm and charisma. We then finish the bench with either a clear lacquer or a colour enhancing oil to provide long lasting protection to suit the products environment.
Our unique and interesting walnut benches are available to buy solo or to buy with any of our other products such as our tables, worktops, breakfast bars, kitchen islands and shelving and if two or more of our products are bought together, we can craft them from the same tree to make a unique bespoke set of matching furniture for your home or business.
We also offer our benches in a variety of other luxury range wood choices, leg styles and with a series of other special effects. More information regarding our luxury range can be found on our Earthy Timber site or by using our enquiry form.
As our bench tops are completely bespoke, the lead time for crafting our benches is around one month. This allows us to ensure the quality of your bench is at its absolute best before delivery or collection.
Our steel legs (finished raw, matt black or matt anthracite) and solid wood table legs are made to order and individually calibrated to suit each specific countertop construction. This is a truly bespoke service, tailored not only to the dimensions of your solid wood table or solid wood desktop, but also to its unique construction and the natural movement of timber as it expands and contracts in response to changes in temperature and humidity.
This careful engineering helps prevent cracks, warping, and splits in the wood. Combined with our precise vacuum kiln drying process, it ensures furniture of exceptional stability and quality, built to last for generations.
Please note that, for obvious reasons, we are unable to advise on the suitability of legs or support systems sourced elsewhere.

Edge Profiles:
Wood edges corresponding to the grain direction (usually long edges) are eligible for customisation. Choose between any combination of the following: live edge, square edge, part live & part square edge.
Vertical to grain direction edges are always square (usually the short edges).
Square edge wood top
As the name implies, all the top edges are finished with a straight edge to give it a traditional finish.
All our square edges are eased by hand. By taking sharpness off the wood edge (contour, border, outline), we accomplish soft, pleasant to touch edge, whilst preserving crisp, sharp, contemporary appearance.
For those who prefer a sleek, contemporary aesthetic, a square edge countertop provides crisp, clean lines with a refined finish. This style is defined by its precise, straight edges and a structured appearance.
Appearance:
– Features straight, uniform edges for a sophisticated, minimalist look
– Highlights the natural grain and character of the wood while maintaining a structured form
– Provides a modern, crisp finish, perfect for contemporary and classical settings
Best Uses:
– Ideal for traditional, modern, minimalist, and industrial-style interiors
Countertop Width (Depth) Considerations:
– Square edges maintain a consistent width across the entire surface
Live edge (waney edge) wood top
Otherwise called waney edge, natural edge, raw edge, earthy edge or wavy edge; smoothed by hand live edge preserves the natural, organic curves of the tree, celebrating its raw beauty and uniqueness. This edge style showcases the wood’s natural contours, resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece that highlights the character of the material.
Please note wood edges opposite to the grain direction (usually short sides, described as width (depth) of the top are always square.
Appearance:
– Features naturally undulating edges, reflecting the original shape of the tree
– No two live edges are identical, ensuring a completely unique and bespoke look
Best Uses:
– Ideal for those who appreciate organic, rustic, or nature-inspired designs
– Complements modern-industrial, Scandinavian, and farmhouse-style interiors
– Ideal as a statement piece
Countertop Width (Depth) Considerations:
– On average, the width of a live edge countertop can fluctuate within a 100mm range, depending on the natural shape of the tree, so please ensure you take this into account when specifing the countertop’s width.
– If your countertop has specific width (depth) restrictions, please provide the minimum and/or maximum acceptable width when placing your order [in notes to the order]
– Without specified restrictions, we embrace the natural flow of the live edge, which may lead to variations in width throughout the surface
– We may refine (square) certain areas of the live edge to enhance usability while maintaining the wood’s organic beauty
– When quoting/placing an order, the width provided in the quotation/order should reflect the average measurement you’d like your edge to oscillate around
Part live & part square edge wood top
A fusion of natural and structured design, the part live, part square edge countertop offers the best of both worlds. This style features a combination of live edge and straight edges along the same side, blending organic and clean lines in a harmonious way.
Please note wood edges opposite to the grain direction (usually short sides, described as width (depth) of the top are always square.
Appearance:
– Integrates both live edge and square edge elements along the same side for a balanced look
– Retains natural curves in select areas while refining other sections with a straight cut
– Offers a unique blend of rustic character and modern refinement
Best Uses:
– A great choice for those who want a touch of natural beauty with a more structured aesthetic
– Works well in modern spaces, hybrid designs, and creative environments
– Offers versatility, making it suitable for home environment as well as professional settings
Countertop Width (Depth) Considerations:
– On average, the width of a part live part square edge countertop may fluctuate within a 100mm range, depending on the natural shape of the tree, so please ensure you take this into account when specifing the countertop’s width
– Please specify your minimum and maximum width (depth) requirements when ordering if such restrictions exist [in notes to the order]
– If no restrictions are provided, we will allow the part live part square edge to flow naturally while ensuring functionality
– Certain natural curves and protrusions may be subtly adjusted to achieve the best balance of aesthetics and practicality
– When quoting/placing an order, the width provided in the quotation /order should reflect the average measurement you’d like your edge to oscillate around
Important Information about Dimensions & Natural Variations
Every solid salvaged wood countertop is individually handcrafted from carefully selected timber planks. Because every tree is unique, we do not simply manufacture to a fixed size – we carefully select the combination of boards that will create the most beautiful and visually balanced finished piece while working as close as possible to your requested dimensions.
In some cases, this may mean your countertop is manufactured slightly longer and/or wider than the dimensions requested. This is intentional and allows us to preserve the natural proportions, character, and visual impact of the timber. A small degree of oversizing is a normal part of the bespoke manufacturing process and should not be regarded as a defect.
If your project has strict dimensional requirements – for example, where the countertop must fit precisely between walls, inside a recess, or against existing cabinetry – you must let us know by adding a note in the Notes to Order section when placing your order. Please specify your minimum and/or maximum acceptable dimensions, or clearly state if the dimensions must be exact. If no such instructions are provided, we will assume there is reasonable dimensional flexibility and will manufacture your countertop as close as possible to your requested dimensions while selecting the most suitable timber to achieve the best overall visual result.
If you choose a live edge or part live edge countertop, please remember that the width will naturally fluctuate along its length, following the original profile of the tree. These natural variations are one of the defining features of genuine live edge timber and are what make every piece completely unique.
If your live edge or part live edge project is restricted by width, you must specify the minimum and/or maximum acceptable width in the Notes to Order when placing your order. If no width restrictions are provided, we will assume you are happy for us to determine the final width, prioritising the natural shape of the timber and the overall visual impact of your live edge or part live edge piece, while keeping the finished countertop as close as possible to your requested size.
Finishing Options for Solid Wood Countertops
Unfinished (Raw) – This is our most cost-effective option and represents a natural stage in the countertop’s craftsmanship journey. The unfinished wooden countertop is produced to the same high structural and material standards as all of our finished pieces and is delivered in a completely unfinished state that requires substantial additional work before installation and use.
Delivered unsanded and untreated, this option features open knots, fissures, and natural voids, along with unfinished, non-smooth edges. As this timber is sourced from salvaged trees, these characteristics are to be expected and form part of its rustic charm.
Any filling of knots or voids – using wood filler, resin, or alternative materials – is entirely at the client’s discretion and should be guided by personal aesthetic preference and intended use. Some clients choose to retain the open features to preserve the timber’s natural, rustic character, while others prefer a smoother, more uniform surface. Extensive sanding, surface preparation, filling (if desired), and the application of a protective finish are all the responsibility of the client. This worktop is not suitable for immediate use upon delivery.
This option is best suited to customers who have the tools, experience, and time to complete the finishing process themselves. It is ideal for hands-on individuals looking to fully customise their solid wood countertop from scratch, save on finishing costs, and create a truly unique piece tailored to their space.
Please note: tables and desks are only available as fully finished, fully protected products.
Fine Sanding Only (Ready for application of the protective finish of your choice) – Offered at a modestly higher cost than our raw (unfinished) option, the sanded countertop is supplied with a fully sanded, smooth surface that is ready for immediate application of the protective finish of your choice. Prominent natural features are professionally filled using resin or organic fillers to enhance visual appearance while preserving the wood’s natural character. Select features may be intentionally left open where they contribute to the piece’s overall aesthetic and natural charm. This option significantly reduces preparation time and is ideal for clients seeking a refined, semi-finished surface without the labour associated with full raw preparation.
Important note for the countertops that require on-site modifications – if your countertop requires on-site size adjustments or cutouts, you should choose either ‘unfinished’ or ‘sanded only’ option. This is because any pre-applied protective finish will be disrupted during your modifications, resulting in visible inconsistencies. If a pre-finished countertop is cut or altered on-site, the newly exposed, and treated by you areas, will not perfectly match the rest of the surface, leading to noticeable patchiness. To ensure a smooth, even finish, we recommend completing all size adjustments and/or cutouts first, then applying the protective treatment of your choice to the entire surface for a flawless result.
Professional Finishing – if you want to receive your solid wood countertop ready to be used immediately (please note this option is only suitable for countertops that do not require on-site cut-outs or size adjustments), our in-house finishing service is the right choice. We offer 3 protective finishing options. Our natural oil finish enhances the wood’s natural depth and autumnal tones by penetrating deeper layers of timber. If you prefer to maintain the original light tones and textures, our transparent matt lacquer finish forms a barrier against damage without altering the wood’s natural appearance. For additional durability, you can also upgrade l to our signature, maintenance free waterproof protection (additional costs apply).
Fine sanding + subtle sheen oil
The unique properties of oil gradually enrich the wood’s grain, deepening its natural hues and enhancing its warm, autumnal tones. As the oil penetrates the deeper layers of the solid wood countertop, it creates a protective effect that helps prevent damage even as the top layer naturally fades over time.
One of the key advantages of an oil finish is its easy maintenance – surface imperfections can be repaired with sanding and fresh re-application. However, oil-finished surfaces are more prone to marking from liquids, making them less suitable for kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms.
To keep your solid wood countertop nourished and looking its best, regular re-oiling with light sanding between the coats is essential. This finish is ideal for those who appreciate the natural beauty of wood and don’t mind the upkeep required to maintain its charm.
Please note that an oil finish naturally has a subtle sheen and may bring out slightly orangey undertones in the wood – particularly in lighter species such as oak, ash, or elm.
Fine sanding + matt lacquer
Our matt lacquer finish offers natural look while providing a low-maintenance protection for solid wood countertops. As a cost-effective, water-resistant solution, it is ideal for surfaces exposed to moisture, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms, as well as solid wood tables and breakfast bars.
We offer our lacquer in a matt finish as standard, unless a gloss finish is specifically requested. However, we would advise against opting for gloss finish – it tends to highlight every mark and scratch, making it a less forgiving choice over time.
Unlike oil, which deepens the wood’s tones, matt lacquer preserves the wood’s original colour palette while adding a transparent protective layer. The matt finish not only enhances the wood’s natural beauty but also helps conceal scratches and marks, making it a practical choice for everyday use.
Fine sandding + waterproof protection + oil / lacquer – matt finish effect
Our exclusive, no-maintenance waterproof protection, developed in-house by Earthy Timber, is applied in a vacuum environment – a process unavailable anywhere else. This cutting-edge treatment provides the highest level of resistance against scratches, stains, and moisture while preserving the natural beauty and tactile feel of your solid wood countertop.
Designed for heavy-use surfaces such as dining tables and bathroom countertops, this advanced finish is highly resistant to water, heat, alcohol, and food acids. It also features a non-yellowing, UV-protected formula, ensuring your countertop remains flawless for years without the need for reapplication.
With its matt finish, Earthy Timber’s waterproof protection amplifies the wood’s natural grain and tones, adding depth while maintaining its organic beauty. Unlike glossy finishes that may alter the timber’s appearance, our waterproof treatment enhances the wood’s character in a subtle, authentic way.
For those seeking the ultimate protection with zero maintenance, this premium finish is available upon request for an additional cost. To add it to your order, please email us.
