In November 2023, Earthy Timber was commissioned to create a bespoke live edge walnut dining table for a modern home in Offham, West Malling, Kent, UK. This case study explores the journey from the initial English walnut table commission to the final delivery, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship and design that went into this exceptional piece of furniture. Client Brief: The client envisioned a walnut live edge river design table that would complement the modern aesthetic of their newly renovated home. With large glass doors on two sides of the dining area, the table needed to blend seamlessly with the natural light and open space. The client had a clear vision of the table’s design elements, including a preference for X-shaped legs in matte black, a 720mm table height, and a 40mm thick tabletop. The resin colour was also a consideration, as it needed to align with the home’s RAL7016 anthracite accents and light grey concrete-effect flooring.
Design Considerations: Every aspect of the live edge walnut dining table was crafted to order, from salvaged tree sourcing to vacuum kiln drying, planing, and handcrafting—all under Earthy Timbrer roof. The table’s legs were custom-made to match the size of the tabletop, ensuring the perfect height and stability. This attention to detail ensured that the table not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations.
Finish and Protection: To ensure the walnut table’s longevity, we recommended our luxury waterproof protection, which offers superior durability while maintaining the wood’s natural look. This finish, though an additional cost, was well worth it for the client, who wanted a large family table that would remain timeless and resistant to everyday wear and tear.
