Bespoke Character Oak Live Edge Dining Table with Trapezoid Legs

The rich history of this character oak live edge dining table is written into the bold, dark mineral lines running through the centre of the tabletop.

As a tree grows around a fragment of metal, such as fencing or even a bullet, traces of the dissolved foreign body are carried around its vascular system, leaving dramatic dark stains. To some, this may have been an undesirable imperfection. We believed it had the potential to become the defining feature of the dining table. Through attentive craftsmanship, the story of inevitable change and perseverance is preserved within these dramatic dark lines.

During the timber selection process, another feature that instantly drew our attention was the sheer width of the solid oak slabs – their broad proportions provide a generous canvas for the flowing grain as it drifts between the pieces.

As wider slabs are more prone to warping and deflection, exceptional protection is required to counteract future structural changes. By vacuum kiln drying the character oak, we are able to carefully control the moisture content within the wood, producing slabs that are inherently stable without compromising their organic character.

Fine-sanded to achieve a velvety finish that feels both masterfully crafted and true to its origin, the sweeping live edges encapsulate the natural shape of the tree they were once a part of. Their coursing twists and bends paint a picture of a tree that sprouted on a steep slope, battled heavy winds or grew around man-made obstacles.
